German Food

So it was Mike Buckle's birthday today and he wanted to celebrate at Teske's German Restaurant in downtown San Jose. It was delicious. I had 2 hefeweizens, Broccoli soup, Salad, Jägerschnitzel mit Knudelin, and Apfelstrüdel for dessert. I would have taken pics, but I ate too fast.

News of the Rod summer

Yesterday I shot a 109 at Santa Teresa. Pretty good for not picking up a club for a year. A really nice golfer that joined our threesome gave me a driver he had in his bag. I hit the shit out of that thing, but noticed it had a whole lot of flex. Turns out it was a ladies club. I hit the fairway off the teebox more than ever, though.

Went to Castlerock with Bij and my bro on Monday. It was sick. I need to bring my camera next time. We did some bouldering which was pretty awesome.

Got a new Vacuum cleaner last week. Trying to clean the house today so I can use it again. Doing some well needed laundry. I currently don't even have enough clothes to take out the trash.

USA advanced to the second round today by the skin of their teeth. I watched the ball go in and held back my celebration in fear of the ref calling yet another goal back. Fortunately it was good.

Trying to go to Denver this weekend. Have yet to go since Vern has moved there.

July 4 I am doing a gig "pro-bono" for a guy I play with in the Villages. 11:00 at Los Gatos Presbyterian. Its a church service, so should be free. Just don't tell them I think the bible is a fairytale ;)

Going to Florida on July 6 with Kenny T. Should be a fun week of Golf, cigars, and going to Island's of Adventure. Kenny's dad is a Republican and think's Obama is a pinko commie. So I am going to agree with everything he says and bite my lip so as not to cause any tension. Maybe I should practice being a republican. "Where is Obama's birth certificate?!!?!"

Fight Club

You are not a unique snowflake, you will all day and become the same compost heap. (something like that). This book is awesome. I have seen the movie like 20 million times.

Reading this book makes me realize that there truly is no purpose in life. In that realization, you are free to do with your life whatever you desire. My job is a great example. There is no purpose in being a music teacher other than something to do that makes me money so I can live comfortably. In doing that, I scam people in thinking music is important and it has a greater purpose and that we heal people and bring community together...all bullshit. Music is just something we listen to to pass the time as we die. And today music is something that is on the background in life so we don't have awkward silence.

Chauncey and I were talking one day...actually we weren't. We were just sitting around. We came to the conclusion that smoking, drinking, having conversation, and doing the things we do when we hang out with people is to fill a void that isn't really there. When you are with true friends and enjoy their company, you don't need to do anything together. You should just be able to sit there silently.

When you tell somebody you are dyeing, the other person listens instead of waiting for that person to finish talking.

On a long enough timeline, the mortality rate for everyone is 100%.

Enlightenment is bullshit, you still die. However, you could be as fearless as a Hindu cow.

You all should read this book. It will change your life or at least your paradigm.

new trumpet

My new trumpet is a Scherzer Piccolo Trumpet. It's different from your normal everyday trumpet cause it is half the size. This allows for easier playing in the higher register. Because of this I now can experience playing music from the baroque period. The other unique thing about this trumpet is that it is a rotary trumpet. For you car people, I now have an RX8 vs. the Mazdaspeed 6.

My trumpet collection is now as follows:

The Bb Stradavarius Model 72 with a medium large bore. This is a typical all-purpose trumpet (currently in the shop getting a new leadpipe). Translated to Car: A BMW 335i with 100k miles on it. The leadpipe has redrot and I need to get a new one, like getting a new transmission.

The C Stradavarius 239 with a Blackburn leadpipe and interchangeable bells. This trumpet is used mostly for the orchestra. A BMW M5. It's interchangeable bells is like on the M3 where you can change from normal driving mode to sports mode. The Blackburn leadpipe is a 3rd party mod...like having a Porsche clutch.

The Scherzer piccolo trumpet. An RX8 with a more reliable engine. Definitely smaller than the two BMWs I have. It is made for soloing and baroque music. Made for the track. High Performance and specialized. Has very little gas mileage.

The Letters

My friend Kenny asked me to help him with a sociology assignment on Tuesday. I was interviewed about technology and how it has made humans become more and less connected. My conclusion to this is that it has done neither. With AIM, Skype, Facebook, blogs, and email, we can be connected with anybody in the world at any time and exchange real information. We can see and hear these people as well.

What we have lost is the simple letter. A handwritten letter is a very expressive thing. It has been replaced by email and text messaging. In that trade off we have lost the inconvienience of buying stamps, looking up addresses, waiting for correspondence, and penmanship altogether. This summer I am bringing back the letter. This will force me to have good penmanship and to be expressive in a handwritten form.

My grandfather used to receive handwritten correspondence from his brother in Texas. These were great because it made my grandfather happy. In return, he would write back. His handwriting is so goddamn good, too! So if you want a letter from me, just send me your address and I will get to writing.
